The Hairywood installation, designed by 6a Architects and Eley Kishimoto, launched The Architecture Foundation's Yard Gallery in July 2005. The design merges pattern and architecture and was conceived as an urban summer house. The 6.3 metre high plywood tower was laser cut with a pattern of Rapunzel's hair and contained an intimate viewing deck overlooking Old Street, transforming this small urban site into a temporary public space.

Hairywood was rebuilt in Covent Garden piazza (20 June - 20 July 2008) and the original model featured in the Somerset House exhibition Skin+bones: Parallel Practices in Fashion and Architecture (24 April - 10 August 2008).

Jury verdict: "The jury was impressed by the way the project successfully blurs the boundaries between art, poetry and architecture, while at the same time obscuring the distinction between public and private space."
